Walgreens API and Developer Marketing Strategies: New Videos

We were lucky enough to have Tim McCauley, Walgreens’ senior director of mobile commerce, and Joe Rago, a senior product manager there, discuss the drugstore giant’s digital transformation and API strategy during our I ♥︎ APIs conference.

We’ve just made the video presentation and the accompanying slides available. In the talk, McCauley details how so many efforts underway in Walgreens’ brick and mortar stores, including opening up store layouts, focusing on pharmacy, photo, and ‘round-the-clock service, and going to where their customers are, parallel the work the company has done with its APIs.

Rago, who leads Walgreens’ API efforts, discusses the two flagship open API programs—the QuickPrints and scan-to-refill prescription APIs—and emphasizes the importance of communicating their features and capabilities to third-party developers.

Part of that effort entails communicating Walgreens’ broad reach (with 8,000 retails locations, it’s the largest U.S. drugstore chain); its broad range of photo products; and the business model and benefits for developers using the company’s APIs.

To that end, Walgreens recently updated their QuickPrints API overview video, which communicates the advantages of building apps on the QuickPrints API.

Thanks again, Tim and Joe, for helping to make the I ♥︎ APIs conference such a great success! For more on ways to engage developers, don’t forget to check out the eBook, “Developers Hate Marketing: Attract Developers to Your API.”
