Inmarsat has picked Apigee to provide an API platform that will allow Inmarsat Certified Application Providers [CAPs] to work on apps that use the Global Xpress [GX] global high-speed mobile broadband service.

Global mobile satellite communications services provider, Inmarsat has selected Apigee's API platform to enable its Certified Application Providers (CAPs) to develop apps that leverage Global Express, a globally available mobile broadband service. Apigee's technology allows Inmarsat's partners to build applications for their market sectors with the GX network's higher bandwidth. Apigee will also provide the API management and creation layer. Inmarsat will use the Apigee Edge cloud-based service as a quick-start approach get enable Inmarsat's CAPs to launch their APIs as well as create new APIs from exposed data.

Throwing a hackathon is a great way for companies to get their name and products out to developers, but it shouldn’t be the only outlet to engage them. “Hackathons are not the be-all and end-all,” said Scott Regan, Apigee’s developer programs leader. “Way too many companies launch hackathons and then that is it, there is nothing after that. A hackathon is meant to be one small event in a larger plan.”
