Appointment Underscores Apigee’s Commitment to API Security
Feb. 19, 2014 – Apigee today announced that Robert (Bob) Lentz, the former Chief Information Assurance Officer (CIAO) for the U.S. Department of Defense, has joined the Apigee advisory board. As an advisor, Lentz is providing insight and counsel to Apigee on IT security strategies. This appointment reinforces Apigee’s commitment to the highest level of security in its API platform as organizations across industries build businesses for a mobile-first world with APIs and big data.
“Today’s digital businesses are powered by data through APIs – and it’s imperative for organizations to build security into the API channel that addresses evolving security challenges,” said Michael Gardner, Apigee vice president of engineering. “Comprehensive data security has to protect the whole digital supply chain, from apps to APIs to backend services. Bob Lentz’s expert guidance will help ensure that we maintain a leadership position in this important area.”
Mr. Lentz is currently the president and CEO of Cyber Security Strategies, an organization that assists government and enterprises with cyber security solutions to gain competitive advantage. He is the former deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Cyber, Identity and Information Assurance (CIIA) in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Networks and Information Integration/Chief Information Officer. As the first CIAO for the U.S. Department of Defense starting in 2000, he oversaw the department’s $3 billion Information Assurance and Cyber Security program. In this role, he established the first comprehensive cyber architecture, supply chain risk management strategy, the world’s most robust identity management systems, and he played a key role in leading the U.S. Comprehensive National Cyber Initiative (CNCI).
“Over the years, Apigee has taken many steps to ensure the security of its products and operations, such as obtaining important standardized security certifications and undergoing security audits including SOC 2, PCI-DSS, and HIPAA for its cloud offering,” said Lentz. “The company has a bottom-up approach to embedding security across its stack into products, server hosting models, and network operations, and I look forward to helping ensure the continued strength of the Apigee API platform.”
