I ♥ APIs 2014 CEO Keynote: Get Digital Ready
An overarching theme of I ♥ APIs 2014 was getting businesses digital ready. A key part of achieving that preparedness is becoming an adaptive digital businesses—one that increases profits by increasing the use of digital assets. Business have to be adaptive to survive, and digital assets are the way to foster agility.
APIs are the price of entry to becoming an adaptive digital business, but real digital success depends upon how well a business gleans value from big data. That data will be flowing everywhere: by 2020, there will be 50 billion devices connecting the "Internet of Everything."
Getting digital ready and finding digital success requires the right foundation—a foundation that brings APIs and big data predictive analytics together. It requires serving all the components of the digital value chain—seamlessly. And between the end user and the backend systems in the digital value chain, are several important constituents—the developers, the apps they build, and the APIs they leverage to build those apps.
It's not just about technology; it's about people, too. Changing mindsets when trying build a digital business can be a major challenge. There are certain priorities that need to be set for each of the people who are the constituents and stakeholders of the digital value chain—the developers, the IT professionals, and business people. It's clear that having an executive level digital leader is a key factor to the success of a digital transformation, for example.
Apigee CEO Chet Kapoor explored these issues and more in his keynote at I ♥ APIs 2014 earlier this month:
