Consider the findings in the “2014 Digital Impact Survey” by predictive platform provider Apigee and Stanford University's Mobile Innovation Group: UK and U.S. smartphone owners are expected to spend $20.4 billion via mobile devices this holiday season—37% ($7.7 billion) of which will be spent via apps. What's more, nearly 60% of U.S. smartphone owners say that mobile phones and tablets have changed the way they shop either somewhat or completely.

Smartphone owners in the U.S. and U.K. believe that they will spend about $20.4 billion using their phones this holiday season, according to research from Apigee. Up to $7.7 billion of this total would be through apps. As a result, retailers are striving to create compelling and memorable app experiences to boost engagement and mobile sales.
