Apigee Wins Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award
Prestigious Industry Accolade Awarded Jointly to Apigee, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone for Integrating Cross-Operator Services into Mobile Apps Through the GSMA OneAPI Exchange
Apigee, the API company, today announced that it has won a distinguished Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award in the “Wholesale Service Innovation” category. Presented by Global Telecoms Business, a leading telco magazine, the award honors the most innovative telecommunication achievements that are defining the present and future course of the industry. Apigee received the award jointly with Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone for the companies' central roles in the GSMA OneAPI Exchange, a breakthrough telco interoperability solution powered by the Apigee API Exchange.
The GSMA OneAPI Exchange powered by Apigee provides the interoperability to seamlessly integrate operator services into mobile apps so developers can easily create new, telco-enhanced mobile app experiences for consumers. Operators can expose network capabilities through APIs such as payment, identity and messaging, which are then federated through the OneAPI Exchange to provide the cross-operator reach. Developers of apps and Web services can easily integrate these APIs to enrich the functionality and improve the user experience of their apps.
Through the GSMA OneAPI Exchange, operators can enable a massive ecosystem of app innovation and build new distribution channels; developers can work directly with operators and expand their reach to a massive global pool of subscribers; and consumers benefit from apps with higher performance, better security and easier billing from operator services.
Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone, along with other leading mobile operators including AT&T, Orange and Telefonica, are founding members of the GSMA OneAPI Exchange.
The Apigee API Exchange, the technology underpinning the OneAPI Exchange, was launched earlier this year as an API exchange platform designed to power app ecosystems in any industry. It delivers seamless API interoperability, enabling businesses within an industry to collaborate and extend the reach of their apps to the broadest possible market.
"The OneAPI Exchange is positioned to dramatically simplify and accelerate the development and use of API-powered apps in a global marketplace, and we are extremely honored that it has been recognized among the many awe-inspiring innovations in telco that were represented at the Global Telecoms Business awards," said Chet Kapoor, Apigee CEO. "We would also like to congratulate Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom, along with the other OneAPI Exchange operator members, for their instrumental work on this project."
“We are delighted that the GSMA OneAPI Exchange has been acknowledged with this award,” said Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA. “This innovative technical solution delivers network capabilities direct to apps and supports closer collaboration between operators and developers. Consumers will ultimately benefit from enhanced, more exciting mobile app experiences.”
The Global Telecoms Business awards were presented to winners at a gala dinner at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London last night. Hundreds of leaders in the global telecom industry attended the ceremony.
