Hermes: Reducing the "Time to First Parcel"

Hermes: Reducing the "Time to First Parcel"

We spoke with Richard Blown, digital architect at Hermes, the U.K.'s leading consumer parcel delivery network.

He discusses how API management and a self-service developer portal can dramatically cut the time it takes to onboard partners. This process takes up to two months; Blown expects that it will be reduced to a matter of weeks with an API platform.

Opening up some Hermes APIs, including its parcel tracking API, to outside developers would be a key way the company could expand its reach and foster innovation in unexpected ways, he said.

"You might find that [external developers] use APIs in a way you hadn't imagined, and that's really where we're looking to drive the innovation."
