Apigee Edge provides an alert feature in its fast and responsive user interface to monitor potential message flow violations.

The RaiseAlert policy sends an alert notification to a destination (a local disk or the system log server) when certain conditions are met, and when required.

Configuring the Raise Alert policy

Configure the Raise Alert policy using the following elements.

Field Name Field Description
Syslog Destination Host IP address of the Syslog server
Port Port where the Syslog server is running

Example - Raise Alert policy

<RaiseAlert name="RaiseAlert">
    <Syslog>
        <Message>This is a test message. id = {request.header.id}</Message>
        <Host>IP</Host>
        <Port>514</Port>
    </Syslog>
</RaiseAlert>

Policy schema

Each policy type is defined by an XML schema (.xsd). For reference, policy schemas are available on GitHub.

This doc page doesn't follow the format for the other policy pages. There is no table of contents at the beginning, and I also can't find the schema. Thanks!

I agree with Paul Frybarger... can't figure out how to add this policy :(... better example would be appreciated.

Thanks so much, fellas. Got this on the radar!

What are the conditions that trigger this alert? Some practical examples would be good

The conditions on which alerts are raised are set when the RaiseAlert policy is added to the API proxy flow. For more information, see http://apigee.com/docs/ja/gateway-services/content/flow-variables-and-conditions.

Where in the flow should this policy be added? Also how can we use it to trap and alert on pre flow errors?

You can put this policy anywhere you'd like, and execute it conditionally based on the error you'd like to capture. When the condition is satisfied the policy will execute and write the data you specify in the element to the syslog destination specified by and .

Note the preceding comment should say specified by "Host" and "Port". I had some angle brackets that were removed during the save.

Mike,

How is this policy different than the syslog policy?

Thanks!
